A note before anything else
If you are in immediate emotional distress or having thoughts of harming yourself, please skip directly to the crisis resources at the bottom of this page. You deserve real support, and it's available to you right now.
Not therapy, not medical advice
Get Over Your Exes is a wellness and self-reflection website. We make tools, write articles, and share content designed to help people process difficult emotions around endings — breakups, friendship fallouts, estrangements, losses of all kinds. We care deeply about what we do, and we've built the site with genuine thought and empathy.
But we want to be very clear about what we are not:
We are not licensed therapists, counselors, psychologists, or psychiatrists. We are not a medical or mental health service. We do not diagnose, treat, or cure any mental health, emotional, or medical condition. Our content is not a substitute for professional care, therapy, medication, or any form of clinical treatment.
Everything on this site — the ritual cards, the No-Contact Timer, the quiz, the guides, the vocabulary, and the book, music, and show recommendations — is provided for general informational and emotional wellness purposes.
If you are struggling, please consider reaching out to a qualified professional. There is no shame in it. Therapy and counseling help people every day — including people who use sites like ours.
Why this distinction matters
Heartbreak is real. Losing someone you loved — or someone you thought loved you — can bring on feelings of grief, anxiety, sleep disruption, loss of appetite, intrusive thoughts, loneliness, and sometimes deep depression. These responses are human and they are valid.
For most people, these feelings ease with time, support, and self-care.
For some people, they don't — or they become overwhelming enough to interfere with daily life, relationships, work, or physical health. When that happens, it's a sign to ask for real help, not a sign of weakness.
You know yourself best. If what you're feeling is bigger than you can manage alone, please reach out to someone qualified. A therapist, a doctor, a crisis line, a trusted person — any of them is a good first step.
Quiz results and tool outputs are not assessments
Our quiz and tools are designed for self-reflection, not diagnosis. A result suggesting you're "still very attached" or "almost there" is a conversation starter, not a clinical evaluation. Real emotional recovery is personal, non-linear, and cannot be captured by any quiz.
Please don't make significant decisions — about your relationships, your mental health treatment, your medications, or your life — based on results from any tool on this site. Use them for reflection and as prompts for deeper thought, not as authoritative assessments.
Physical health is affected by emotional distress
Breakups and emotional loss can meaningfully affect physical wellbeing. You might experience changes in:
- Appetite and eating patterns
- Sleep quality and duration
- Energy levels
- Alcohol or substance use
- Weight, digestion, or immune function
If any of these changes are significant or persistent, please speak with a doctor. Content on our site is not medical advice, and we cannot assess your physical wellbeing from here. A real healthcare provider can.
We also do not recommend any specific medication, supplement, dosage, or treatment. If our content ever mentions such things, it's in a general informational context, not as a personal recommendation.
Crisis resources — please reach out if you need them
If you are in crisis, having thoughts of self-harm or suicide, or feel unsafe right now, please contact a crisis service immediately. These services are free, confidential, and available around the clock. You don't have to be "sure enough" to call. If part of you is wondering whether you should reach out, that's reason enough.
